 | | How does Rextrusion differ from reconstitution systems?
- Rextrusion is possible on a continuous production-line. Reconstitution systems are usually based on batch processes and are therefore not fully automated.
- Many reconstitution processes are highly sensitive, particularly to delays following the activation of binder ingredients. Rextrusion requires only the level of care which can be expected from any good manufacturing practice.
|
 | | How do Rextruded products differ from reconstituted products?
Conventional reconstituted products are often perceived by consumers as poor imitations of "the real thing", having unpleasant and unnatural textures and consisting of dubious ingredients. Rextrusion allows for the manufacture of high quality products with superior sensory qualities, and where desired, incorporating the natural textures of many products, even when using trimmings and other inexpensive ingredient sources.
|
 | | How does Rextrusion enable manufacturers to save and make money?
| The Rextrusion process enables producers to create added-value products economically. Put simply, the value of products coming off the Rextrusion machine is invariably significantly higher than what was fed into the machine. It is quite normal to achieve a 65% increase in value even taking into account the cost of additives, and therefore the 'payback period' on the Rextrusion machine is unusually attractive. |
|
 | | Are there any hidden consumer "issues"or food safety concerns?
No. The Rextrusion process does not feature any unsafe ingredients or processing methods which consumers perceive as harmful. The additives used in the process are approved by all major international health authorities such as the USFDA and various European authorities, and have been in use in food manufacturing for decades. The process does not require the use of genetically modified or irradiated foods, and may be used with organically farmed ingredients and for producing vegetarian and vegan products. REX's ingredient declaration complies with EU requirements.
